DIY: Branch Orb Chandelier

DIY Branch Orb Chandelier side by side

I first saw this beautiful branch orb chandelier on Pinterest when I was on my gather ideas for my home I don’t have yet pinning kick, and pinned this one to my beautiful outdoor spaces board. Then, we became homeowners and I could turn this bookmarked beauty into a reality!

I looked around to try and find a branch orb in stores like The Makery as well as online. The orb itself was so costly and after spending our savings on our home we’ve been trying to save wherever we can. Like with the kitchen, we decided to do it ourselves, I decided I was going to try and make this branch orb chandelier myself. The worst that could happen would be that I failed at making it and then we’d have to decide if we really wanted it or not and breakdown and buy the orb and just add the lights to it. Luckily for me the home we purchased came with overgrown grape vines. One weekend when my parents were over helping us in the backyard they cut back our trees and vines. Before cutting and putting them into the green waste my mom asked if I wanted to use them for the orb I had mentioned I had wanted to get. A bright light went off in my head and I dropped helping them clean up the backyard and immediately started on the orb. So if you can believe it this orb cost me all of maybe $15 to make! I already had the Christmas lights to put inside so all we had to buy was copper wire to tie the branches together and the metal chain to hang the branch orb chandelier from. Below is the step by step process of how I made my outdoor fixture so you can create your own if you want.

Branch Orb DIY

1. Source the material for your branch orb. I went with grape vines.

2. Bend your first vine in a circular shape. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I went for a looser orb so it didn’t have to be a perfect circle. Tie ends together so the circle will stay. Repeat tying the second circle perpendicular to the first circle.

3. From there start wrapping the vines around your two circles creating an orb shape.

4. Use the copper wire to hold the vines together.
5. Secure the chain to the top of the orb with some copper wire.

6. unravel and drop christmas lights into the center of your branch orb then start hooking the lights to the branches finding areas where the branches stick out making it easy for them to stay put. (I used two boxes of white Christmas lights, 300 lights each)
7. Decide on where you are going to hang your orb and secure.

8. Use an extension cord to plug the lights in, and enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed my DIY branch orb chandelier. Let me know if you want more of these types of posts by leaving a note in the comment section. As always, thank you so much for stopping by the blog!
